Haskell Cultural Center

Prairie Band Construction, Inc. (Prairie Band) was the prime contractor responsible for refinishing the exterior of the Cultural Center located at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. The work consisted of removing the existing stain on the exterior of the log cabin. We trimmed the existing exterior foundation insulation edge and installed 1x exterior wood trim board. Inspections were completed on wood log walls for cracks, leaking, and deterioration. Anomalies discovered were epoxy filled and repaired to maintain integrity. We cleaned exterior wall joints and filled with new sealant. Additionally, we thoroughly cleaned the facility and removed and resealed all old caulking joints. Deteriorated wood areas were removed and replaced, followed by the entire facility being re-stained. We also installed a matching stained and sealed skirt around the foundation perimeter of the facility.

Ancillary work included upgrading the adjacent building monument sign and circular seating area at the entrance, which was stained and sealed to match the new finish on the Cultural Center. We prepared and recoated existing retaining wall steel guardrails on the west side of the building and handrails on the north side of the building with a high-performance primer and paint coating designed for steel railings. We also removed and replaced deteriorated sections of concrete walk near the sign with an air entrained concrete walk designed for exterior use.

Our proposed team members have served in Project Management, Superintendent, and Quality Control roles on numerous Air Force projects supporting a variety of Job Order Contracts, Single Award Task Orders and Multiple Award Task Orders at Minot and Tinker AFB's. We are well versed in base access security process requirements and USAF Design-Build and Construction requirements.
